Kiwis Win Oceania Cup!!
From the 3rd-5th October, The Wall in Rotorua hosted an excellent 2008 New Zealand, and Scarpa Oceania Championships. The Aussies turned out in force, determined not to relinquish the grasp they have had on the Oceania Cup since it's inception. Points are awarded for podium finishes in speed and difficulty through all categories. The visitors had the speed wrapped up with a 500pt margin but it wasn't enough to offset the 700pt lead the Kiwis had amassed in the difficulty. Big respects to a frightfully strong Junior/Youth contingent with heaps of Kiwis becoming Oceania Champs in their grade. We will post up a list as soon as the results are released by the NZSF.
In the Open category the 2008 NZ National Champs were won by wounded battlers Sarah Gilmour and Zac Orme overcoming injuries to take it out. Aussie veterans Samantha Berry and Rob LeBreton defended their 2007 victories to take the Oceania Championships, with the top ranked Kiwis being Emma Hawke and Sefton Priestley both taking bronze.
Full credit to all the organisers, officials, routesetters, forerunners and Wall staff for a great event, and to the Aussies for being super positive and fun competitors.
Long live the Oceanias!

"You actually pull apart the system to understand what’s happening.
It’s certainly a deeper level than buying a camera off the shelf." - Marty Blumen
